About us
Cycling Scotland's Vision is:- To establish cycling as an acceptable, attractive and practical lifestyle option.
Our Goals
To champion high quality public space that encourages active living.
To highlight the health benefits of regular cycling.
To establish cycling as a solution that extends choice and improves access for everyone.
To promote the economic and social benefits of cycling and it's infrastructure.
To encourage cycling as an effective, practical and sustainable transport option.
This is how we hope to achieve this:
Information, training and advice
People's early cycling experiences can be greatly affected by their choice of bicycle, route, clothing and the training or advice they receive. We can advise on these and offer one on one or group training to make sure that you get the best possible start. There is more information on training later on in this section, and also a section specifically on training accessible from the homepage.
Partnership working
We work alongside an increasing number of organisations which realise that an increase in cycle use will assist them in acheiving their goals. Health, traffic, road safety, tourism and the economy all stand to benefit from the successful promotion of cycling as part of everyday life. Cycling Scotland carries an expertise in cycling's relevance that can greatly enhance the work of bodies as diverse as community health projects and motoring organisations.
Consultancies
Cycling Scotland is available to offer consultancies on most aspects of cycle use. This could be identifying and implementing marketing opportunities or providing expertise on appropriate projects to implement the Scottish Executive's Cycling, Walking and Safer Streets strategy. We want to make sure that where people are spending their resources to promote cycling, they will get the best possible result for their investment.
Education
As well as individual cycle training, we offer training to schools, community groups, police forces and any employer or organisation who would like to support active travel or cycling as a part of work. Our goal is to make sure that every Scottish school will offer training in cycle skills, route planning, road safety and the benefits of cycling. Through this, we would encourage a healthier nation with less traffic congestion, safer, more pleasant streets and a stronger economy with less strain on the National Health Service and roads departments.
Events
Cycling Scotland promotes Pedal for Scotland (www.pedalforscotland.org), Scotland's premier cycling participation event. We are involved in providing opportunities for the public to come and try cycling at various events around Scotland. We also publish an events diary for other leisure and non-competitive cycling events. We support national Bike Week in Scotland, which gets thousands out on their bikes every year in a nine-day festival of cycling.
