Choosing your route
Cycling is often a great way to get from A to B. This section provides information on choosing your route and information for those designing cycle friendly routes.
Identifying and using these routes can make a huge difference to the experience of cycling if, however, you dig a little deeper you may find that your journey can be more enjoyable than you would expect.
So, how do you go about finding the best route to use in order to benefit from cycling's advantages? Local authorities throughout Scotland have cycling officers and access officers. Many local authorities are able to provide maps of cycle routes within and around their areas, and in some cases they will also have information on their websites.
Sustrans
Sustrans is a sustainable transport charity which is responsible for the creation and maintenance on the National Cycle Network.
The National Cycle Network is a great success story. Nearly half of you live within a mile of it. The Network carries over 230 million journeys each year, taking kids to school, workers to work dogs on walks, shoppers to shops - it even helps the Royal Mail deliver your post.
In the last decade, with the help of many partners, the first 10,000 miles of the Network have been completed. To view Sustrans online mapping tool to plan your route, click here.
