Devon Way Demonstration Site

Cycling Scotland, the Paths for All Partnership and Clackmannanshire Council have agreed to the development of a demonstration project to showcase best practice in relation to shared use paths for active travel.  As part of the reaction to the recent publication of the Cycle Action Plan for Scotland, Cycling Scotland intends to develop a demonstration site and so approached Paths for All who have developed two sites, Oatridge Agricultural College and Battleby, over the last few years.  Their sites are used as training venues with examples of gates, bridges, path surfacing, and retaining structures on show.  Clackmannanshire Council had a suitable site on the Devon Way between Alloa and Tillicoultry near Fishcross and was willing to work with the national agencies on developing the project.

The path will use differing materials to showcase surfaces that are suitable for active travel and will demonstrate techniques to help deal with the removal of conflict issues. In addition the path design will address access control, on-route mapping and information, signing and monitoring and will have an on/off road crossing facility.

The development of the path will act as a training and information project for professionals and practitioners.  Cycling Scotland and PFA will use the venue as a training location and information will be disseminated to the wider professional field via information sheets and leaflets.
