How to get started
- The first step is to register your organisation to access the Cycle Friendly Employer Award resource pack. This will enable the organisation to begin the online assessment.
- It is important to establish support within your organisation to be point of contact and co-ordinate activities. The designated cycling ‘Champion’ will carry out the staff travel survey and self assessment form. If your organisation is registered on the Healthy Working Lives award ask your co-ordinator for support as the CFE award directly contributes to the physical activity and environment sections of the HWL award. Details of how cycling and the Cycle Friendly Employer Award can contribute to achieving and maintaining the levels of the HWL award can be found here Bronze Award, Silver Award, Gold Award
- The next step is to carry out the staff travel survey. This establishes baseline travel patterns which can be repeated to demonstrate any shift in travel behaviour after a set period of time.
- Complete the self assessment form . Score your organisation against 3 areas of criteria under the headings - Infrastructure, Incentives and Promotion. The assessment identifies areas for improvement and can be used to create an action plan for future activities. Guidance notes are also included to help the assessor by signposting sources of information.
- Return your completed form to Cycling Scotland to be considered for the Award. An assessor will review your self assessment form, may make recommendations and will schedule an assessment visit. If all essential criteria are met or exceeded the organisation will be eligible to receive the award.
