1. Around in the City
You think you’re flexible with your car? You think you’re taking the subway and you’re flexible? Only with the bicycle you’re really flexible in the city. No matter where you pass, you can always stop and within a second jump into a shop or a cafe or just scan the window. The bicycle is quick and flexible on your trips within the city.
2. Get rid of the extra x-mas weight
After the holidays all our trousers are tight. Now it’s time to get in shape again. The easiest way to do it, is to use your bicycle to commute in the city. Not possible? Sure, most distances for commuting in the city are under 2 km and even my grandma could do that!
3. You stay healthy in winter
If you take the subway in winter you’ll notice almost every second person in sneezing. People become sick in winter. Often it’s just because of the temperature and humidity drop between inside and outside. Our lungs and the whole body don’t like that. If you cycle in winter you most likely won’t get sick just because you stay outside for a greater amount of time so that the body can adjust better. The fresh air everyday helps you stay healthy. (P.S. don’t forget your hat, gloves and thick socks!!!)
4. Without depression through the winter
Everybody knows the winter depression. Sun sets at 4 pm, and most of the time you cannot see the sun at all (like in foggy Vienna). The amount of sunlight (sun 100.000 lux, indoor lighting between 600-1500lux) is impossible to create with artificial light. If you cycle, you’re outside a lot longer and will get much more sunlight then others, even on a cloudy or foggy day.
5. You don’t sweat
The reason for not cycling in the city is quite often sweating. Well, we people sweat when we move our bodies. Within our society sweating is unacceptable. If you cycle with a moderate speed during the wintertime, you’ll most likely not sweat at all. The body gets hot while cycling and the cold air cools it down, it’s that simple (That’s why it’s great to dress in layers!)!
