Deadline for Cycle Friendly Secondary School Camps Extended to 19th September

Cycling ScotlandCycling Scotland want to know what you would do with £3,000 to encourage more cycling at your school.  Tell us your ideas to win a place on a week-long camp, during October, to build leadership skills and become a cycle champion in your school.

Cycling Scotland invite you to apply to attend Cycle Friendly Secondary School Camps for pupils to develop as school cycle champions.  You will be supported by experts and experienced tutors to develop your ideas into an action plan that we will support you to implement in your school.

The competition is open to teams of up to 6 pupils who must be in S4 or S5 in August 2014.

10 successful teams from around Scotland will be invited to attend a week-long camp in the October school break (13th until 18th October or 20th until 25th October 2014).

At a five day residential camp pupils will develop their idea and attend:

  • Workshop activities to develop the funding ideas and create an action plan
  • Cycle Training Assistant training (to deliver Bikeability 1 and 2)
  • Making Cycling Mainstream courses in planning and designing for cyclists and event management
  • 1 day cycle maintenance for activity providers
  • Go MTB (mountain bike) riding skills day with thought of development pathways

THE PRIZE

Each team will be awarded a budget of £3,000 to put their plan into action when they return from the camp.

Cycling Scotland will provide tutor input to support each of the successful pupil cycle champions during the week-long camp.

Successful teams will be expected to present at school assemblies and at a whole school function including parents and teachers.

Successful teams will be required to monitor behaviour change in their school with regular bike rack counts, Hands Up Scotland Survey participation and travel diaries.
