Cycling Scotland Staff Help Bring in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

By bike (or zip wire), Cycling Scotland Staff members are helping make the 2014 Commonwealth Games great.

The Glasgow 2014, XX Commonwealth Games, has arrived with the Opening Ceremony at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

Glasgow is buzzing with excitement and visitors from all over the world and Cycling Scotland’s office on Blythswood Square is perfectly placed to be in the thick of things and see firsthand all the excitement throughout the city.  But Cycling Scotland is not just enjoying the atmosphere; we are also proud to say that five of our staff members are directly involved in helping to deliver a fantastic Commonwealth Games.

Ian Aitken and Nina Saunders took part in the Queens Baton Relay on Monday, 21 July – albeit each transporting the baton by very different modes!  Ian used a bike from the brand new nextbike public cycle hire scheme, while Nina clung to both the baton and a zipwire to soar across the Clyde.  You can see more at the BBC coverage of the day.

In addition, you may see “Clydesiders” Tom A’Hara, Gary Bell and Christopher Johnson volunteering at the cycling events dotted around the city.  All three were at Cathkin Braes today to prepare for the mountain biking events held there next week.
