PedalforScotland2013_LIGHTBACKGROUND_CMYK [Converted]Around 3,000 people from Glasgow and the surrounding area turned out for the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Glasgow Family Ride on Sunday 21st September 2014.

Riders of all ages and abilities from across Glasgow cycled a family friendly traffic free loop starting and finishing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. The Glasgow Family Ride is part of a calendar of freshnlo Pedal for Scotland events, organised by Cycling Scotland.

After the ride, participants were treated to a track cycling display from Team Scotland elite cyclists, led by Double Silver Glasgow 2014 medallists Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston.

Crowds were shown track cycling skills by Aileen and Louise who were also joined by Charline Joiner, Evan Oliphant, James McCallum, Jenny Davis and Laura Cluxton.

Scottish cycling superstar Danny MacAskill also joined in the fun, appearing with his ‘Drop and Roll’ team. Danny and his team wowed the crowd with a spectacular show of flips, tricks and skills, some of which fans may have seen in his ‘Imaginate’ film.

Many of today’s participants were raising money for children and young people in Scotland affected by poverty by supporting the STV Appeal, the event’s official charity partner.

Keith Irving, chief executive of event organiser Cycling Scotland said: “It’s fantastic to have thousands of people in Glasgow today for the grand finale of freshnlo Pedal for Scotland 2014. It’s been great to see so many people out on the ride today, making use of the fantastic riverside cycle paths and new segregated cycle lanes in the area, which we have welcomed as one of the legacies of the Commonwealth Games.

“Today’s freshnlo Pedal for Scotland event has provided an opportunity for many more to experience the impressive Velodrome surroundings and witness cycling skills from both Scotland’s elite and trials cyclists.

“Over the past three weeks we have seen over 11,000 people enjoy a fun day of cycling right across Scotland from Glasgow to Edinburgh and Aberdeen. I look forward to welcoming people of all ages and abilities to our events next year. If you’re already keen for 2015, registration is now open for next year’s freshnlo Pedal for Scotland events via our website.”
