Cycle Friendly School
About
There are a great range of active and committed staff, parents, volunteers and partners working towards promoting cycling in schools. Through our Cyclce Friendly School Award, Cycling Scotland can help you towards achieving real benefits.
Cycling Scotland’s Cycle Friendly School is a nationally recognised award for all Primary Schools in Scotland who are committed to increasing the number of children cycling to school. The aim is to encourage cycling as part of a whole school culture of cycling to benefit both children’s health and their environment and can contribute to Health Promoting School and Eco-School initiatives.
Each stage of the award process is fully supported by Cycling Scotland and the award is accompanied by a number of resources, including lesson plans, and links to cycling training.
The step by step Cycle Friendly School Process:
1. Identify a committed school ‘cycle champion’ to help guide your work.
2. Register your school online
3. Complete the online self-assessment. This is quick and easy, and allows us to gauge what stage you school is at.
4. Cycling Scotland will feed back any recommendations and an action plan.
5. Once you have collected the supporting evidence, we will carry out a short assessment visit (supportive, not critical!)
6. Successful schools recieve a framed certificate and goodies for both pupils and staff.
