Making Cycling Mainstream
Making Cycling Mainstream
Making Cycling Mainstream is a professional development programme for Cycling Officers and other associated professionals.
The Making Cycling Mainstream programme promotes the Cycling Scotland ethic to develop good practice in the delivery of cycling projects. Our philosophy is that cycling schemes should integrate effectively and be seen as practical and relevant by intended users.
Making Cycling Mainstream is a set of 10 different workshops aimed principally at staff within local authorities and other agencies. These interactive courses will give staff useful skills ranging from developing travel plans to engaging with stakeholders to learning how to promote use of your cycling infrastructure. Information on the courses can be found by clicking here.
As well as these courses the Paths for All Partnership provide a range of courses to support the development and promotion of local access opportunities. More details of their current training courses can be found on their website.

Local Authority/National Park Support
The Making Cycling Mainstream education package has been presented successfully to groups of transport professionals from local authorities, MSc. students of Transport Planning and Engineering, to MEng. students of Civil Engineering for several years now. Building on this success this year (2011/12) Cycling Scotland is seeking to work directly with Local Authorities/National Parks to provide support in the form of more bespoke training days located within your local area. University Support
Cycling Scotland officers have presented the 10 workshops to transport professionals in twenty-seven of the thirty-two local authorities across the country over the past four years. The ‘Policy and Planning’ and ‘Design for Cyclists’ modules have for the last three years been included in the Masters in Transport Planning and Engineering and Civil Engineering post-graduate courses from Napier University, again presented by CS officers.
