Cycle Training Resources
Cycling Scotland's courses are all supported by a resource manual for the specific course. Manuals will be made available to candidates registered on the courses through the course Tutor.
To augment the Scottish Cycle Training Scheme (SCTS), Cycling Scotland has developed the Ready, Steady, Bike and Go ByCycle programmes, which provide a level below and above the SCTS. Currently Cycling Scotland can offer these resources FREE OF CHARGE to groups and organisations committed to delivering a quality cycle training scheme.
READY, STEADY, BIKE
Ready, Steady, Bike has been developed by Cycling Scotland to teach essential cycle control skills. These fundamental skills are matched to level 1 of the National Standard for Cycle Training. It is aimed at primary school children, potentially in primary 5 (or lower) and can be seen as preparation for children participating in the SCTS in primary 6. Ready Steady Bike covers all the requirements of the SCTS.
GO ByCYCLE
The Go ByCycle award has been designed to follow on from the Scottish Cycle Training Scheme and can be delivered as part of a primary 7 programme (or early secondary). The skills are matched to level 3 of the National Standard for Cycle Training. Go ByCycle provides a foundation for independent cycling as a practical and healthy means of transport, recreation and journeys throughout life.
Both the Ready, Steady Bike and Go ByCycle Resource consists of:
• A trainer’s guide - for use by instructors
• A set of trainer’s prompt cards - for use by instructors
• A cyclist’s guide - for each candidate to take away.
